Individual Rights

The extension of individual employment rights and a wider policy push to improve the rights of workers in the gig economy will be a key theme for the remainder of 2025 and throughout the duration of this parliament.

The government has a stated goal to give all individuals with worker status the same rights and protections. There would be only two statuses – workers and the genuinely self-employed. That is a longer-term goal but understanding the current make-up of your workforce and additional cost elements if all ‘workers’ were offered same rights as employees will be relevant for all businesses.
