TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE
Transforming our operations
We are transforming our operations, supply chains and services to make sure climate and sustainability are incorporated into every decision we make.
This allows us to play our part in improving and strengthening our industry to face global challenges and reach net-zero. Our approach aligns with the expert guidance we provide clients through our Climate & Sustainability Advisory Group.
In 2022 we committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across our entire carbon footprint by 2040 and were one of the first law firms to have our targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which are consistent with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.
Our 2040 target takes account of the projected pace of change in society, industry, our supply chain and other carbon reduction technologies. We believe it is reasonable to expect that our hard to abate areas, such as travel and supply chain, will be able to transition within that timescale, therefore the target strikes a balance between ambition and realism. It should be noted that 2040 is a backstop and we will be more ambitious where that’s possible.
ALIGNMENT WITH UN SDGS:
“I am pleased to see that our latest emissions data shows we are making good progress towards meeting our 2030 and 2040 carbon reduction targets. However, we’re also very conscious that we need to have our eye on the next 2 to 3 years where increased interventions will be needed to remain on that trajectory. We are in the process of developing our transition plan that will involve the greater steps we intend to take, including a combination of behavioural change, technological improvement
